Silicone

Silicone is made commonly produced out of so-called silicone particles, a group of synthetic polymers, which are mainly created out of the compound between silicium and oxygen.

Toys

Depending on the final product, Silicon can be further processed to silicon oil, silicon resin or silicon rubber. Silicon oil would be used, for instance, in the form of hydraulic fluid or as an active component of various cleaning agents. Silicone resin is often further processed to liquid varnish or is used within various industrial processes. Most interesting with regards to erotic toys would be silicon in the form of silicon rubber, with its flexible and rubber-like structure. Since silicon rubber is usually easy to clean and robust in nature, but at the same time very flexible, it is often used in the production of various dildos and vibrators with a flexible surface. Furthermore, due to its robustness, silicone does not deteriorate or become porose or stiff as easily as other materials. Additionally, the majority of individuals display a high tolerance towards silicone, hence allergic reactions of the human skin are very rare.

Lubricants

In contrast to normal lubricants on the basis of pure water, silicone is increasingly used as a component in lubricants as well. Due to its robustness, lubricants on the basis of silicone potentially cause a longer moistening of intimate areas. In addition, lubricants stick longer to toys such as dildos or vibrators than normal lubricants.

Do it yourself-toys

Some manufacturers offer the possibility to create one’s very own, personalized dildo, by offering unprocessed silicon rubber. Since silicon rubber is normally quite easy to form using one’s own hands, it enables everyone to create a customized dildo according to one’s own preferences.

Silicone allergy

Silicon is used in a vast number of products, which most individuals use on an every-day basis, such as sealing compounds, care products such as hair shampoo, creams, soap or deodorants and even within food such as chewing gum. Most individuals have a high tolerance towards silicone, thus allergic reactions to silicone are very rare.
